I was thinking about some of the places that Edmund and Lucy have loved the best over the time we’ve been on the road. It’s often not the same places as the rest of us. Peter and Susan, like their parents, tend to prefer the places with a good story attached. It there is an interesting history, or story, to the place then we are all sure to love it. But Edmund and Lucy? Well, Edmund had just celebrated his first birthday and Lucy was a grand four years old when we left our house. Now, at three and six respectively, they can’t remember anything but the nomadic life. They definitely prefer the experiences and the tactile rather than the story of the places we visit.

At Coffin Bay there were so many kangaroos with joeys! Every game Edmund plays, he still talks about "going to Coffin Bay", as he just associates it with the miriad of kangaroos with joeys, and emus with chicks.

This was one of the first times we'd seen emu chicks in the wild. We spent over an hour following these emus around, desperately trying to keep the very over-excited Edmund and Lucy quiet so that they wouldn't scare off the flighty birds.

We spent a week visiting Monarto Zoo. Lucy and Edmund who had litte memory of previous regular zoo trips when we'd lived in Melbourne thought it was just heavenly to see so many animals.

Lucy spent an afternoon crabbing with her Dad. She had a great time scooping up the crabs in the net, and loved having her father all to herself. She was less than impressed when she realised that the crabs were going to be cooked up for dinner.

One of their favourite things to do is getting to play in the water. We blew up tyre tubes for them to bob around in the water on.

Of course, sometimes the things they love are things we don't need to actually go anywhere to do. Edmund got his first bike for his third birthday, and just loves riding around like his older siblings.
The theme seems to be anything with animals, or where they get to swim, ride or play in the sand or mud tends to be well received.

Thanks Mary, it is interesting how much animals hold the fascination of kids, even reptiles and insects are interesting to them, not just the soft and cuddly.
